Well folks, after looking at what seems like a thousand different HDTV’s from 32″ to 50″, from Plasma to LCD, from 720P to 1080P, and after looking at reviews everywhere, I decided on this Vizio 47″ LCD for one reason – PRICE. I have looked at many HDTV’s and all of the LCD sets seem to be comparable in features that count. I ruled out Plasma because they are too fragile. The LCD’s have a very good picture, fair sound without an additional sound system and about the same appearance. I am using a standard definition Dish Network system with this TV and the picture is quite acceptable. Depending on the channel I watch, the picture ranges from a little noisy to sharp and clear. It’s not the TV – it’s the quality of the signal on that particular channel. I purchased a Blue Ray player to see what the TV was really capable of doing and I was absolutely blown away with the quality of the picture. It is unbelievable almost like looking at a 35mm photo. I took a bunch of digital pictures with a FUJI 3.2 MP camera and burned them to a DVD slide show with music. I then watched them using the Blue Ray player and my Vizio 47″ LCD and the picture quality again is close to 35 mm quality. I was planning on going to Dish Network’s HD system but after seeing what this TV does with the standard signal, I am having second thoughts because the standard is pretty darn good! Also, the Blue Ray player does a great job of up converting my standard DVD movies to give a very acceptable and pleasing viewing of my standard DVD movies. I also found that most any up convert DVD player will give very good quality reproduction with this TV from a standard DVD movie. For my money, I believe this TV will run head to head with any of the others I have looked at and I have looked at a lot of them. I am now looking at slightly smaller Vizio for use in another room in my home. I would recommend this TV highly because it delivers a great picture, has a lot of nice features, has a good warranty, and won’t break your budget. I really like mine and will buy another. I would recommend a good external sound system to greatly enhance the sound quality. I hooked up a $69 dollar PC audio system with a small sub-woofer to mine using a set of Radio Shack RCA adapter cables and the sound is great. Not 5.1 surround but not $300.00+ either!! Good luck on what ever you decide to purchase.
